Quick tips for making a research poster

I spent four years in graduate school. Sometimes, my friends and I would joke that we just spent four years becoming experts at Excel.
This is not far from the truth, though, since implausible time constraints simply forced us to learn how to do things more efficiently. There was much googling involved. In the process, I learned many ways to streamline making research posters.

While making a research poster can be the last thing you want to sit down and do after spending so much time on a project, I found that I really liked creating them. This might be for the same reason that I really enjoyed writing up my results; I finally got to see everything come together in a finished product, and a product that could finally earn some credit on my CV!

Observing my husband work as hard as ever in medical school, I have begun to feel sincere compassion for him and all his classmates who are asked to manage SO many different tasks and projects every day on top of studying for ever-looming exams. I know the last thing he wants to do right now is dig up his old case study and make an artistic rendering of it, and I’m sure he’s not the only one.

In an effort to preserve a little bit of the souls of our future healthcare force, I developed a free guide for medical, graduate, and even undergraduate students to use as they create their research posters. In this guide are a few secrets that I believe can save hours of precious time, and it should only take about 10-15 minutes to read.

Note: this is not an exhaustive guide for what information to include in a poster; this is more of a guide to help make the tedious parts of formatting take way less time!

I do also offer related services, such as poster reviewing and formatting, which may be able to help students in dire straits.

Happy PowerPointing!
